Jacob Nigel is a 57 year old man with Rheumatoid Arthritis who was awarded SSDI benefits. He worked as garbage collector and driver for a waste management company from November 1973 to May 2008. Mr. Nigel has rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, high cholesterol, and obesity. Mr. Nigel tested positive for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) in multiple test results. He has flare-ups of pain, night stiffness, sleep loss, hand pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, stiffness, knee pain, foot pain, and fatigue. Mr. Nigel has problems lifting, walking, kneeling, climbing, and using his hands. His maladies were so severe that they impeded his ability to work. As of May 2008 he was unable to work.

Jacob Nigel retained the Law Office of Neil H. Good to represent him before the Social Security Administration to obtain disability benefits. An initial application was filed to obtain disability benefits. The Social Security Administration rejected his initial application. They ruled that Jacob Nigel did not qualify for Social Security disability benefits. Mr. Nigel’s request for reconsideration was filed with the Social Security Administration. The Social Security Administration denied the request for reconsideration. They ruled that while Mr. Nigel could not perform his previous vocation he was still able to perform light duty work. The Law Office of Neil H. Good filed a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) on his behalf.

Attorney Good outlined Mr. Nigel’s case to the ALJ. Mr. Nigel suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, which is evidenced by his multiple positive RA tests. He has flare-ups of pain, night stiffness, sleep loss, hand pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, stiffness, knee pain, foot pain, and fatigue. Mr. Nigel has problems lifting, walking, kneeling, climbing, and using his hands. Consequently he is afraid of dropping things. He is Hepatitis C reactive, has high liver enzymes, and is obese with a BMI of 34.7. Mr. Nigel has sought and continues to seek medical treatment for his ailments. Attorney Good further outlined that even with the treatment, Mr. Nigel has not received complete relief. The physical disabilities not only made any vocational pursuits impractical for Jacob Nigel they made daily activities and social functions unrealistic.

The Social Security Administration awarded Mr. Nigel Social Security benefits. They ruled that Mr. Nigel was not able to perform his past relevant work. A combination of all his physical disabilities impeded his ability to do all work.
