Robert Harrison is a 60-year-old man who worked as a service technician for a commercial food equipment repair company from 1985 to 2008. He has a history of cardiac complications. These complications include abdominal aneurysm and an abnormal EKG which led to a hospitalization. Mr. Harrison suffers from cervicalgia with neck pain, leg edema with numbness and tingling, and arthritis with joint pain and swelling. He also suffers from hypertension and high cholesterol.
In December 2009, Mr. Harrison was hospitalized with chest pain, nausea, and vomiting. His EKG test results was came back as abnormal. He was then sent to another hospital and another EKG test was performed and showed first degree AV block, RBBB, and lateral and inferior infarcts EKG.
Robert Harrison applied to the Social Security Administration for disability benefits. His initial application was denied as well as his request for reconsideration. Mr. Harrison also has arthritis with joint pain and swelling. Consequently he cannot lift, stand, or sit for long and has difficulty walking. In addition to these maladies, Mr. Harrison has Hepatitis C and had to stop interferon therapy due to side effects.
In addition to Mr. Harrison physical disabilities he also has depressive syndrome. This causes him to have severe restriction of of his activities in daily living from social engagement to maintaining concentration, persistence, or pace. The physical disabilities in tandem with the mental impairments not only made any vocational pursuits impracticable for Robert Harrison they made daily activities and social functions unrealistic.
The Social Security Administration awarded Robert Harrison Social Security benefits. They ruled that Mr. Harrison was not able to perform his past relevant work. A combination of his physical and mental disabilities impeded his ability to do all work.
